Pakse: One day and no longer, this place is only a necessity as an in between stop to travel further South towards the famous 4,000 islands. There is one street where you’ll find a few guesthouses and restaurants and truly that’s the main highlight. When we arrived we immediately booked a ticket for first thing early in the morning.

Must Eat
Dok Mai: Best Italian in town and perhaps in Laos! Find inside this restaurant a true Italian and from Sicily no less who started up his shop here in Pakse. During our travels we’ve noticed that we sometimes hunger for a simple pasta (which I know is really bad and not very wanderlustic but hé, can’t help the urge). Often the pasta’s that we eat don’t meet our expectations so we end up a bit disappointed but boy oh boy does this Sicilian know how to wip up something yumsters. He was playing around with his menu so I ended trying a coliflower and parmesan starter which was finger licking good and had a pasta gorgo as main… Loved it!

Must Do
Book tickets at Daolin: There’s a great chance that you’ll stop in front of this place with your tuk tuk anyway (we believe that the owner of Daolin made some kind of deal with the tuk tuks to get all the tourists at his place because, everyone we know stepped out here). However I didn’t even mind because we were immediately able to buy a bus ticket for a reasonable price to go to Don Det and the 4,000 islands, which also included the boat trip to get to the island. In Daolin you can drink a banana shake and share your stories with the other dozens of tourists here who are all on route.

Must Find
Wrapped Tires: You almost want to buy it and give it as a gift to someone. These tires are wrapped with bountiful colorful prints and glittery details which I’ve never seen before in any western garage shop. To think that getting a flat tire back home is un fun… here… it’s an excuse to buy a wrapped piece of goodness.
That’s all folks, next stop: Don Det 4,000 Islands Laos
